Something Blue

Monday, September 29, 2014

Something old, something new, something borrow and... SOMETHING BLUE! Many brides like to keep this tradition alive for their big day but also seem to struggle with what they should use for each good luck charm!

It is considered to be simpler to include something old, say your grandmother's necklace, something new could be your wedding dress or new shoes, something borrowed could be a friend or relative's earrings! But when it comes to something blue, the ideas are limitless! Include a small blue heart from a loved one's shirt, have your bridesmaids write cute notes on the bottom of your shoes in blue ink or even use delicate blue hair accessories for that added pop of color!

This wedding tradition came from an Old English rhyme "Something olde, something new, something borrowed, something blue, a sixpence in your shoe" and are considered to be good luck charms when the bride wears or carries these items with her on her wedding day.

Something old represents continuity; something new offers optimism for the future; something borrowed symbolizes borrowed happiness from perhaps a loved one or friend; something blue stands for purity, love, and fidelity; and a sixpence in your shoe is a wish for good fortune and prosperity which is usually not included in wedding talk.

Illusion Necklines

Friday, September 26, 2014

The latest in wedding fashion is a wedding gown with an updated illusion neckline. Illusion necklines were made popular last year and now designers are amping them up with crystals, beading and sequins. Maggie Sottero, Casablanca and Stella York have various options for this type of dress and have proven to be popular in our boutique!

The base of illusion necklines is typically constructed out of tulle, lace or netting - then more detail can be added on.

Illusion necklines give a glamorous update to the ever popular strapless look.

Delicate lace and tulle or netting provide a sense of modesty for the bride while keeping her favorite details of her dress alive around the neckline.

These dresses are extremely versatile and allow for the bride to wear their hair anyway they want to! Both up do styles and longer hairstyles look extremely elegant with this type of neckline!

These great styles can be found at our shop, Wedding Inspirations in Asheville, NC! Come check us out!

Fall Wedding Colors

Tuesday, September 23, 2014

The fall season is rushing in and bringing us new and exciting colors to rave about! According to The Perfect Palatte, the top fall colors are: cranberry, camel. bronze, teal, mustard, sangria, navy blue, mauve, light sage and pumpkin! Here are some of our favorite combinations of these colors!

Cranberry & Mustard

Cranberry and mustard might not sound too tasty when combined but for fall weddings they look incredible! Fall brings beautiful color changes to the many trees and leaves here in North Carolina and along with that comes great wedding colors!

Light Sage & Bronze

Greens and golds fill the air of outdoor weddings. We love these colors for rustic and barn weddings. The earthy tones create a naturally beautiful environment to throw the perfect wedding party.

Navy & Sangria

Switch it up! Bright pinks and sangria look incredible with dark and navy blue. Maybe your signature drink should be a red or pink sangria to add to the fall festivities!

Pumpkin & Camel

Nothing screams fall more than pumpkins and the outdoors. Natural browns of the woods and environment combine together with pumpkin oranges for the most amazing fall wedding colors. Hairstyles for Your Wedding

Saturday, September 13, 2014

Something all brides struggle with is what to do with their hair - If you have a lovely dropped back of your gown you may not want to cover those details up with long curly hair. We decided to do some research on the top wedding hairstyles and what types of dresses they work best with.

Modern Chignon

Chignon up-dos are popular for all types of dress and necklines.  North Carolina summer weddings can be warmer than other destinations and styling your hair up and off of your neck will keep your temperature a little cooler and the humidity won't let it fall flat and lose its shape. Consider adding a flower or bling to your hairstyle to customize your wedding look!

Sweet & Clean

Doing a lot of dancing and movement on your big day?  Pull your hair clean up and away and lock away those loose ends for a secure hairdo. We love these clean looks when wearing intricate or higher necklines or backs of dresses as to not distract from the beauty of your gown.

Bohemian Braids

If you are looking for a more bohemian or free spirited style we recommend braids! Up, down, or to the side, braids are the perfect way to get that styled messy look that brides are going for. No one will notice if your hair comes out of place with these flowing hairstyles so let loose and twirl that hair!

Waves for Days

Let those waves flow! We love loose curls on brides. This classic look works for any wedding season and adds volume to your hair. A vintage headband or hair-comb would add the perfect amount of glitz to these wavy hairstyles.

Next Level Ponytail

Rock that ponytail! Take your ponytail to the next level with these adorable styles. A twisted or braided "illusion headband" is a simple detail that takes a traditional pony up a notch! How about a Princess Jasmine bubble style (as pictured left)? We would love to add glittery hair ties to the look to add a little sparkle!

Short & Cute

Pixie cut or bob? You have more options than you think! A retro suicide roll is a classy look to consider if you rock those short locks! Add some statement hair pieces or jewelry to get that wedding look you always wanted!

GOLD Is In!

Wednesday, September 3, 2014

Rose Gold

Rose gold, also known as red or pink gold, is a combination of yellow gold and high percentages of copper. The color is extremely delicate and beautiful. The highest karat of rose gold is known as crown gold which is 22 karats. Rose gold first became popular in Russia during the beginning of the nineteenth century and commonly known as Russian Gold.

 Yellow Gold

Pure gold is yellow in color and tends to look nice on people with warm skin tones. Yellow gold looks best when regularly polished to retain its shine due to the fact that it is prone to scratches and dents.

 White Gold

White gold's properties vary greatly depending on the metals used to design it. Usually, one white metal, nickel, manganese or palladium is used to make it. White gold is great for many different uses depending on what metals it is made out of. When combined with nickel, white gold is hard and strong which is great for rings and pins. However, when combined with palladium, the end result is soft and pliable which makes for white gold gemstone settings.
