Something Blue

Monday, September 29, 2014

Something old, something new, something borrow and... SOMETHING BLUE! Many brides like to keep this tradition alive for their big day but also seem to struggle with what they should use for each good luck charm!

It is considered to be simpler to include something old, say your grandmother's necklace, something new could be your wedding dress or new shoes, something borrowed could be a friend or relative's earrings! But when it comes to something blue, the ideas are limitless! Include a small blue heart from a loved one's shirt, have your bridesmaids write cute notes on the bottom of your shoes in blue ink or even use delicate blue hair accessories for that added pop of color!

This wedding tradition came from an Old English rhyme "Something olde, something new, something borrowed, something blue, a sixpence in your shoe" and are considered to be good luck charms when the bride wears or carries these items with her on her wedding day.

Something old represents continuity; something new offers optimism for the future; something borrowed symbolizes borrowed happiness from perhaps a loved one or friend; something blue stands for purity, love, and fidelity; and a sixpence in your shoe is a wish for good fortune and prosperity which is usually not included in wedding talk.

ASHEVILLE PROM FASHION SHOW & AFTER PARTY

Thursday, March 1, 2012

The prom dress tends to be the centerpiece of your whole look, while everything else – from hair to makeup, to what your date wears – revolves around the dress. Some of the hot, new trends are ruffles, tier lace, hi-low hemlines, mermaid silhouettes, and even sequins and feathers. Although, styles like the ball gown and Greek goddess, never go out of style. And for those of us who aren’t blessed with height, think short.  Short dresses are hotter and better than ever!
To help initiate this inspiration, Prom Fashion Asheville, Wedding Inspirations, and Lights Out, held the 1st annual Prom Fashion Show & After Party! The event took place at The Venue in downtown Asheville on Saturday, January 28th. Attendees were able to meet and chat with makeup and hair artist, pick out their limo, and explore unique floral options during the vendor expo portion of the event, which took place prior to the show! The Fashion Show began at 8pm and featured a variety of the hottest new looks for 2012! Prom dress styles featured wild animal prints, sequins, neon colors and all silhouettes  were highlighted on the runway. Models had a blast showing off the dresses as they waved their ribbon wands and puckered up for the camera as they stopped to strike a pose! The Fashion show came to a close with guest performances by singer DezMr828 and dancers Carolyn & Rachel Greenan!
The After Party featured a dance and some tasty treats for attendees to take part in. Sweet Ohh La La displayed a fabulous self serve candy bar, while yummy beverages rimmed in sprinkles were passed around! The after party lasted until midnight and was a huge hit.  Make sure you mark your calendars for next year!  You don't want to miss it!
